Art Scholarship Campaign

Since its establishment in 1897, the Frederick Art Club has made art education a primary mission. Now, members are giving its scholarship fund fresh emphasis with a campaign that will significantly increase financial support for students of the visual arts.

Given the high cost of college education, more and more students turn to scholarship funds like this one for much-needed help with tuition and fees.

In Celebration of the Club's 125th Anniversary
Education: An Enduring Focus

The Frederick Art Club intensified its focus on art education in 1996 with the receipt of a substantial gift—earmarked expressly for visual art scholarships—from the estate of founding member Louise Doty. Subsequently, deserving Frederick County art students have received financial assistance because of Miss Doty’s farsighted benevolence and the Club’s ongoing commitment to sustain it.

Today, the scholarship fund is held and administered by the Community Foundation of Frederick County (CFFC), which since 1986 has invested more than $86 million back into the community thanks to thousands of generous donors to funds like this one.

100% Club Participation
Club officers and the scholarship committee kicked off the scholarship campaign in September 2022 with individual pledges and gifts totaling $14,000. All 100+ other members are asked to contribute as well, with the objective to match or exceed that amount and realize full Club support by fall 2025.

Inviting Your Support

Even with 100% membership support, Club donations alone will not reach the $125,000 goal. That’s where the community comes in.

Individuals, businesses, and foundations are invited to support this important campaign. Your gift will allow talented students to develop skills that are valued in specialized visual art vocations and are also highly transferable to related sectors. Career possibilities include web designer, professional artist, interior designer, graphic artist, teacher, photographer, curator, art therapist, and many more.

$125,000 for 125 Years

In fall 2022, the Club announced plans to celebrate its 125th anniversary by growing the art scholarship fund to the fitting sum

of $125,000. The three-year campaign will build on a $50,000 foundation, a sum that comprises the scholarship fund’s existing balance along with funds remaining from the Club’s extremely successful Claire McCardell Project.*
