Programs and Activities

Learning Lunches

The women of the Frederick Art Club meet the second Thursday of the month from September through December and March through May at the Delaplaine Art Center in Frederick.  Each meeting starts with lunch and is followed by a program on topics ranging from art in architecture and storytelling to historic preservation and landscape design. We welcome summer in June with a casual get-together strictly for pleasure and also hold social events throughout the year.  Find out how to join!

Art Advocacy

The club has always advocated for the arts. In 2018 the club launched a public art endeavor to honor fashion designer and Frederick, Maryland, native Claire McCardell  (1905-1958). Credited with inventing American sportswear, McCardell masterminded innovative fashions that have uniquely defined decades of American fashion. The Claire McCardell Project involved  creation of a bronze statue of the designer by member/sculptor Sarah Hempel Irani. Claire's likeness was unveiled in Carroll Creek Linear Park in downtown Frederick, Maryland, in October 2021, where it now  presides over an elegant garden.
