the Maryland Mosaic

Frederick Native to be Honored    Groundbreaking fashion designer and Frederick native Claire McCardell has been selected as one of the Maryland Mosaic's 142 "national firsts" to be celebrated in 2026 when the United States turns 250. Each piece in the Mosaic represents a county's significant contributions not only to the state but across the country,  underscoring that "Maryland is a small state with a big history."

History in Bronze  Our club was the driving force behind an ambitious project to create and install the statue of McCardell that now presides over Carroll Creek Linear Park in downtown Frederick . TFAC gifted the bronze image to the City of Frederick to enhance its public art landscape.

On the Horizon   Work is underway now across Maryland to develop ways to promote each Mosaic Piece and connect them in a heritage tourism trail for 2026. As a Mosaic partner, TFAC is planning an event surrounding Claire's story, with her statue as a springboard. Follow this site and the state's site to find out what's coming!
